читать дальшеOh boy, more Smallville casting news. There's been a lot of who's-who on the new season of the long-running series, and now we have another one. After getting to know the Wonder Twins to the almighty Zod, EW's Michael Ausiello has announced another face to another legendary name: Jor-El.
According to the source, it's actor Julian Sands who's been chosen to play the role of biological daddy to Clark (Tom Welling). In earlier seasons of Smallville, it was Terrence Stamp who provided the voice for the character. For season 9, however, viewers will be introduced to this 24 star in his very Kryptonian form.
Julian Sands will be debuting on the season's seventh episode "Kandor," premiering in November. He's apparently one of those arriving with Zod (Callum Blue), joining other Kandorians. His role as a young Jor-El will definitely be fundamental in Clark's acceptance of his destiny, as we all know.
During the recent (and very spoilery) San Diego Comic Con, Smallville executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders have revealed a few things about this incarnation of Jor-El. They already teased that Zod affecting the time-parallel would escalate to phenomenal events on the show, which would explain the opportunity to sneak in the living Jor-El.
The two Smallville heads also said that we haven't heard the last of Terrence Stamp. Does that mean these two will be playing Jor-El alternately? Well, if there's anything the guys behind the show can really do, it's to make things work for their benefit.
For those who may doubt the Kandorian abilities of Julian Sands, let's check up on what he's accomplished on film so far. He's best known for his role on the cult flick Warlock, but was catapulted into stardom as the lead in 1985's A Room with a View. Sure, that was a romance; the guy has other merits though.
Sands has experience playing out of this world characters, as he's appeared as the Doci of the Ori on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: The Ark of Truth. He's even a terrorist on the series 24. With that background, there may be hope for an actual Jor-El we can root for.www.buddytv.com/articles/smallville/julian-sand...Just last month, Warner Bros. decided to shelve the idea of a new Superman reboot, ending any recent chance to wipe Superman Returns from our heads. (Sorry fans, but aside from the shot to the eye, that flick was anything but cool.) Yet now I find myself wishing they'd reconsider, and it's all because of Smallville.
www.scifisquad.com/2009/10/28/julian-sands-jor-...Clark Kent has had something of a strained relationship with his paternal Kryptonian father over the years. But that's just what happens when a guy has to deal with the disembodied psychic computer version of a dad he never knew.
Well, as we reported back in September, a kinder, gentler Jor-El may just meet his son in the flesh for the first time in the Nov. 6 episode of "Smallville" entitled "Kandor."
